Machines with rotating parts, such as generators, are influenced by multiple resonances during startup and shutdown. These phenomena occur because the increasing frequency of the rotor matches the different resonance frequencies of the system (real systems typically have more than one resonance frequency). To prevent this issue, the springs have been provided with elastic elements inside.
